This article presents the results of a cross-sectional survey evaluating Ob/Gyn residents' experiences with robotic surgery at various stages of their residency. The survey was conducted among 98 residents from eight U.S. residency programs, assessing hands-on participation, satisfaction levels, and exposure to different surgical procedures. The study found that resident satisfaction with robotic surgery training increased with greater hands-on experience, particularly when operating at the console. Seventy-six percent of PGY3 and PGY4 residents reported performing robotic surgeries, with the majority involved in over 20 cases. Residents who had greater exposure to fellowship-trained faculty, especially in Minimally Invasive Gynecologic Surgery (MIGS), reported higher satisfaction. However, factors such as case time constraints, lack of first assists, and case complexity limited their console experience. The study concludes that incorporating earlier exposure and greater resident participation in robotic surgeries can enhance satisfaction and competency, underscoring the need for curriculum improvements in residency programs.
