This study evaluates the impact of the LACC trial on the surgical approach and associated complications in radical hysterectomy for cervical cancer. After the LACC trial results were published, showing worse outcomes with minimally invasive surgery (MIS) compared to open surgery, there was a significant decrease in the use of MIS for radical hysterectomy. This shift did not lead to an increase in major post-operative complications, although there was an observed increase in minor complications, particularly blood transfusions and superficial surgical site infections. The study supports the continued use of open radical hysterectomy as the standard of care for cervical cancer following the LACC trial.
